Abstract

PURPOSE:To have a tool replaced in a short time by installing an intermediate arm between the tool magazine and a changer arm to set and remove tools on/from the spindle of a machine tool and making preparation of the tool to be used in the subsequent stage during at stanbly time while a processing goes on. CONSTITUTION:When a tool 6 fitted on the spindle 2 of the spindle head 1 moving vertically at the side of the column 3 has completed its work, the head 1 will rise to a level equal to the center of the changer arm 5. This arm 5 which holds, on its other side, another tool 9 to be used in the subsequent stage approaches the spindle head 1 to catch the tool 6, moves in the C direction to take off the tool 6, and upon turning 180 deg. moves in the D direction and sets the tool 9 on the spindle 2. Then the changer arm 5 moves in the B direction and, at the same time, the spindle head 1 commences processing. During processing an intermediate arm 8 stores the tool 6 in the specified place in magazine 7 and sets the next tool on the changer arm 5.
