Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a material of high bendability while retaining superior soft magnetic characteristic by solidifying the melt of an Fe-Al alloy by a liquid quenching method, then annealing the same. CONSTITUTION:Fe and Al raw materials are mixed to the composition contg. 12- 16wt% Al, and these are melted in a high frequency melting furnace, whereby ingot are obtained. These are crushed to broken pieces suited for use in a liquid quenching device. Next, the broken pieces of the amt. meeting the capacity of the liquid quenching device are taken out and are melted by resistance heating. Such melt is dropped by, for example, high speed rotation, onto a pair of drums forming a slit between each, whereby it is quenched and an Fe-Al alloy strip is obtained. This strip is cut and slit then bent according to need, whereby it is finished to desired shapes. Following this, the products are annealed, and this may be carried out prior to bending. Such alloy is crystalline and has the advantage that is magnetic properties remain stable despite heating.
