Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect abnormal printing by determining the pulse width and the timing of a current pulse detected as flowing through a hammer driver of an impact type printer.
CONSTITUTION: Current pulses of a hammer driver is detected with a detector 2 and held in a registor 4 as a discrete value of a pulse width via a counting circuit 3 (numeral 1 indicates a sampling signal). Then, they are discriminated with comparator circuts 5 and 6. When the contents of the register 4 are lager than a fixed signal 7 (a discrete value of the largest allowable pulse width), a signal 9 is generated while a signal 10 is outputted (abnoraml pulse width) when they are smaller than the signal 8. On the other hand, signals from the current detector 2, driving information 11 of a driver and a driver setting signal 12 are compared (numeral 13 represents a delay circuit and 17 a one-shot circuit). When the state of a driver current does not coincide with a printing command between times, one before and the other after the current pulses become constant, a signal 18 is outputted (abnormal pulse setting timing).
