Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to accurately measure the laser power at the emitting end of a laser power transmitting optical fiber, by measuring the laser beam part reflected from the emitting end of the fiber by means of a sensing means disposed in the vicinity of an incidence end of the fiber. CONSTITUTION:A laser beam source 1 produces a laser beam 2 which is introduced through a focussing lens 3 into the incidence end 4a of a transmitting fiber 4 and is transmitted through the latter so as to be emitted from the emitting end 4b of the same. A part of the laser beam is inevitably reflected at the emitting end 4b and runs in the reverse direction through the fiber 4 so as to be emitted from the incidence end 4a as a beam 6. This beam 6 is made to pass through the lens 3 and is reflected by a perforated mirror 7 (or a half mirror) which is disposed so as not to intercept the incidence laser beam 2. The reflected beam is then transmitted to a display unit 11 for a display thereof, through a photosensor 8, amplifier circuit 9 and an arithmetic operation circuit 10. It is possible to use a perforated sensor 13. According to this arrangement, it is possible to countinuously and precisely measure the laser power while maintaining continuous application of the laser beam. The apparatus, therefore, can suitably be used in medical treatment.
