Abstract
PURPOSE:To realize a random access reproduction of a short time, by securing the shift of a magnetic head in the direction of the tape width by forming a number of recording tracks in the direction of the tape width. CONSTITUTION:A head drum 11 is attached to a drum shaft 13 that is supported, e.g. vertically by a fixed frame 12, and is supported by a movable supporting frame 16 at the upper and lower positions. The frame 16 contains a female screw mechanism which is fitted to a screw shaft 17 supported vertically by the frame 12, and is controlled to be shifted vertically along with the drum 11 by the rotation of the shaft 17. The shaft 17 is rotated by a pulse motor 20 connected via gears 18 and 19. A magnetic head is set on the circumference surface of the drum 11 to perform the reproduction through one of a number of recording tracks formed in the width direction of a tape 21.
