Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve discharge characteristics at a low temperature by specifying the porosity of a positive molded-electrode-unit mainly made of manganese dioxide and conductive material. CONSTITUTION:An alkali manganese dry battery is prepared by setting 23.5- 28.0% porosity of a positive molded-electrode-unit 2 made of manganese dioxide and a conductive material, and combining the a zinc negative electrode 6 with the above unit 2. The positive molded-electrode 2 is prepared by subjecting a previously molded mixture of manganese dioxide and graphite together with a positive electrode ring 3 to compression molding in a can 1 under a pressure of 3t/cm<2> and feeding 10mol/l of an aqueous caustic soda solution therein. 23.5-28.0%, the range of porosity corresponds 89/11-95/5, mixture ratio of manganese dioxide to graphite, which is the region where the least conductivity can be kept and the amount of electrolyte absorbed in the positive electrode 2 is the most. High grade of discharge characteristics can be thus obtained at a low temperature by increasing amounts of active materials and electrolyte, while keeping conductivity.
