Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain stably embossed patterns of a clear-cut and three-dimensional appearance by a method in which the surface of a base plate coated with water is pressed by a hot pressor having smoothened circumference and then hot-pressed immediately thereafter by a hot embossing roll. CONSTITUTION:A soft fibrous plate or mineral fibrous plate as a base plate 1 is out on a conveyer and delivered in the horizontal direction, during which the surface of the base plate 1 is wetted with water by a coater 2 and then hot-pressed by a hot pressor 3 having smoothened circumference, e.g., a hot roll, etc., whereby steam is generated inside the surface layer of the base plate 1 and the surface layer of the base plate is thus softened. Immediately thereafter, the surface layer of the base plate 1 is hot-pressed by a hot embossing roll 4 having an uneven pattern 4a in such a way as to form an uneven pattern 4a on the surface of the base plate 1. Thus, a fibrousf plate with a desired uneven pattern can be obtained.
