Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as an intermediate of pesticide, medicine, perfume, etc., in shortened steps, without producing by-product and waste water, in high efficiency, by heating a 2-substituted enamine at a specific temperature in the presence of water and pref. a sulfonic acid.
CONSTITUTION: The compound of formula II (esp. 2-substituted cyclopentanone) is prepared by heating a 2-substituted enamine of formula I (R1 is hydrocarbon residue; R2 is secondary amino residue; n is integer 2W9) at 50W150°C (pref. 80W 130°C) in the presence of water. Addition of 0.1W10pts.wt. of a sulfonic acid (e.g. p-toluenesulfonic acid, methylsulfonic acid, etc.) per 100pts.wt. of the raw material to the reaction system is preferable in view of the yield improvement. It is also desirable for the similar purpose to carry out the reaction in the presence of a hydroplilic organic solvent (e.g. lower alcohol) or a surface active agent (e.g. higher carboxylic acid or its alkali metal salt) compatible with the raw material.
