Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a titled steel wire material of good cold workability by directly charging a steel material on the way of rolling into hot water right after rolling while preventing the coarsening of austenite grains owing to the excessive temp. rise of said material. CONSTITUTION:In high speed hot rolling for wire materials, a wire material W is rolled through rolling roll stands 1, 2. The material W passes through the stands 1, 2 and coolers 6, 7, then through a cooler 3 out from the final stand, is pulled out by pinch rolls 10 and is introduced into a coiler 4, by which it is wound to a coil shape. The coiled material W is directly charged into the hot water above 60 deg.C in a hot water tank 5 installed below the coiler 4. Also, the material W is cooled so as not to exceed 970 deg.C throughout the entire process by the above-mentioned coolers 6, 7, 3.
