Abstract

PURPOSE: To print or display a character through optionally selecting the form of character for an optional character by storing character pattern information with plural forms of character for a specific character in a character pattern memory and installing a means to select the form of the character.

CONSTITUTION: A key input device 101 is equipped with a character specification key 101A, various function keys 101B and a character pattern specification key 101C. The key 101C outputs a character pattern specification code CG when some characters are to be displayed with a specific character pattern (Ex. Gothic type) different from a normal pattern, but outputs a character pattern specification code CN at normal pattern. In the character pattern memory 102, normal character patterns are stored in a memory area 102₁ and a specific character patterns of specific characters are stored in a memory area 102₂, When characters are inputted from the device 101, the code CN/CG is inputted in a processor 103 by depressing the key 101C. The processor 103 reads out a character code from the area 102₁ or 102₂ according to the character pattern code and outputs the character code on a CRT or a printer.
