Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide the reinforced Al (alloy) being suitable for materials for parts having a high young's modulus with a high productivity, by dispersing silicon carbide fiber in Al (alloy) and by carrying out the hot or cold processing to blend Al with the fiber.
CONSTITUTION: The silicon carbide fiber having prescribed dimensions is dispersed in and mixed with molten Al (alloy) in a furnace. The billet is cold processed with an extruding machine to be transformed into pipes and suchlikes or it hot processed with a rolling mill to be transformed into plates and suchlikes. In the processing, the silicon carbide fiber is automatically oriented in an extruding direction or in a rolling direction. Since hydrogen dissolved in Al is eliminated when the silicon carbide fiber is dispersed in Al, no pores due to hydrogen gas occur in the formed reinforced Al (alloy) material. The reinforced material can be effectively used in the wing, fuselage, etc. of airplanes.
