Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a magnetic recording medium with which a reduction of the reproduced output can be avoided for a repetitive travelling with no increment of the head wear, by compounding the abrasives having a hardness higher than a prescribed value and different pure specific gravities into a magnetic coating film.
CONSTITUTION: The following two types of impalpable powder are used: (a) an abrasive impalpable powder (such as the powder of SiC, TiO2, SiO2, etc.) having (a) ≥6 old Mohs' hardness and a ≤4.2 pure specific gravity; and (b) an abrasive impalapable powder (such as the powder of ZrO2, CeO2, α-Fe2O3, etc.) having a ≥6 old Mohs' hardness and a ≥5 pure specific gravity. In other words, a magnetic coating material obtained by compounding the above-mentioned two types of abrasive powder into a magnetic powder, a binder, etc. is coated on a supporter film to obtain a magnetic recording medium. The total amount of the abrasive powder is set at ≤20wt% or so to the magnetic powder, and the grain size of the abrasive is properly set within a range of 0.1W2μ.
