Abstract
PURPOSE:To save the amount of heat energy used as well as shorten the time of processing by subjecting a ferrite-based stainless steel wire containing an effective amount of chromium and a specific proportion range of C+N to a rolling treatment under a controlled temperature condition. CONSTITUTION:The billets of a ferrite-based stainless steel, containing 0.08% or less C, 1.00% or less Si, 1.25% or less Mn, 16-18% Cr, 0.04% or less N, 0.08% (C+N), and Fe and inevitable impurities, with 15.5% or more effective chromium amount (or Cr%+4Si%-22C%-30N%-1.5Ni%-0.5Mn%), are prepared. Then, the billets are rolled in a low-temperature region of 950 deg.C, preferably 700- 900 deg.C. Thus, a stainles steel wire having favorably comparable properties can be obtained without the need for annealing treatment after the rolling treatment.
