Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the weight of a battery widely, and enable the battery to be used for a portable apparatus such as a video tape recorder or an electric motorcar by forming metallic films suitable for the kind of the battery over resin grid used for the electrodes of the battery. CONSTITUTION:A molded resin body 1 used as a frame is prepared from either a generally moldable resin such as ABS resin or polypropylene resin, or a material made by mixing or combining a resin with inorganic compounds such as a metal powder, a metal compound and carbon. When the body 1 undergoes an electric lead plating 2 of, for example, 100mu thickness, 1.85g of lead per grid is plated on the body 1 since the surface area of the body 1 is 16.3cm<2>, and the weight (0.57g) of each plastic member and the weight (1.85g) of lead per grid sum to 2.42g weight for each negative grid. Therefore, when negative grids for a battery are prepared by performing lead plating of 100mu over plastic sheets, the weight of the negative grids becomes 43.6g per battery, and is less than that of the conventional battery by 114.8g per battery.
