Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture high-strength ductile cast iron having superior tensile strength as cast by adding specified amounts of Cu and Ca to molten ductile cast iron or further adding Cr, Mo or Ni.
CONSTITUTION: To molten ductile cast iron contg. 3.2W3.9% C, 1.8W2.8% Si, 0.4W1.2% Mn, <0.1% P, <0.02% S and 0.02W0.06% Mg are added 0.3W1.5% Cu and <0.01% Ca in the form of a Cu-Ca alloy, a Cu -Ca-Si alloy or Cu and Ca or Ca-Si. One or more among <0.8% Cr, <0.8% Mo and <2% Ni may be added furthermore. Thus, ductile cast iron having a structure contg. stable nodular graphite and high tensile strength corresponding to that of FCD70 without requiring any heat treatment as cast is obtd.
