Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve an S/N ratio and to reduce size by placing a hot-cathode vacuum fluorescent tube light source in contact with or closely to a large-sized image sensor equipped with a photodetecting element which has a light shielding layer on a transparent substrate. CONSTITUTION:Luminous flux 12 emitted from a hot-cathode vacuum fluorescent tube light source 9 illuminates a transmitted original 1 through gaps between light shielding layers 10, a transparent insulating layer 11, and a transparent protective layer 7. Reflected light from the transmitted original 1 is supplied to a photodetecting element 6 for photoelectric conversion. Lighting luminous flux 12 travels directly toward the photodetecting element, but it is shielding from by the light shielding layers 10, so it never reaches the photodetecting element and causes no disturbance. Therefore, a high SN ratio photo-electric converter is constituted and the light source 9 is placed in contact with a transparent substrate 5, so that the efficiency of lighting is excellent.
