Abstract

PURPOSE: To recover gold easily with good current efficiency in the stage of recovering the gold in waste liquid of stripping of gold plating which is alkaline and contains free CN ions by electrolysis by adding H2O2 beforehand to said liquid and heating the liquid then controlling its pH.
CONSTITUTION: ≥0.1wt% H2O2 is added to the waste liquid of stripping of gold plating which contains free CN- in an alkaline bath and contains ≥1 component of any of Cu, Ni, Fe in 10ppm liquid concns. and the liquid is heated for ≥5min at 30W90°C. Further, this liquid is neutralized with an acidic chemical such as phosphoric acid to control its pH to 1.5W6.5, after which it is electrolyzed. Here, if the heat treatment temp. is below the lower limit, the reaction is slow, and is in excess of the upper limit, the rate of evaporation is too high and these are undesirable. The free CN- is decomposed by H2O2 and the excess H2O2 is decomposed in the presence of a catalyst such as copper of Ni by the subsequent heating, whereby the decrease in current efficiency is prevented and further the decrease in the current efficiency owing to alkalinity is prevented by the neutralization.
