Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare various grades of the titled copolymer having balanced physical properties such as impact strength, rigidity, etc., continuously, in high effeciency, by using a stereospecific catalyst, and controlling the rate of polymerization in the mutually connected polymerizers by adding an additive.
CONSTITUTION: The bulk polymerization of propylene and ethylene is carried out using a stereospecific catalyst composed of a solid catalyst containing at least Mg, Ti and Cl and an organic Al compound[e.g. (C2H5)2AlCl]and using propylene as the polymerization solvent, under the condition that there is at least one polymerizer in which the polymerization reaction is carried out at an ethylene/propylene reaction ratio of 15/85W95/5 by weight. For example, the homopolymerization of propylene is carried out in the polymerizers A and B controlling the rate of polymerization by adding an additive such as triethyl Al compound; the H2 concentration is controlled in the polymerizer C to the level necessary in the following polymerization steps; the copolymerization of ethylene and propylene is carried out in the polymerizers D and E; the catalyst is deactivated in the polymerizer F; the slurry is heated in the apparatus H; and the product is dried by flushing in the apparatus G to obtain the objective copolymer.
