Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate an easy alteration of the converting characteristics and to give the optional nonlinear converting characteristics to the input signal, by reading the storage contents of an RAM with use of the digital signal delivered from an A/D converter for the address signal. CONSTITUTION:An image pickup part 1 delivers the 3 primary color pickup signals which are obtained by picking up a subject. The pickup signal is supplied to an A/D converter 3 from the part 1. The pickup signal converted into a digital from through the converter 3 is used as an address signal with which a data table of the gamma characteristic curve is referred to and supplied to an RAM4 to which the data table is written. A data table obtained by calculating the gamma characteristic data (y) through an arithmetic part 5 comprising a microprocessor, etc. is previously written into the RAM4. The storage contents can be freely changed for the RAM4 by writing a new data there. The part 5 can calculate an optional data (y) by changing the constant of the operation mode.
