Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the wear resistance of a magnetic layer, the durability and the electric characteristics of a magnetic recording medium, by incorporating needle-shape nonmagnetic powder and fine particles of carbon black into the magnetic layer as a filler. CONSTITUTION:In manufacturing a magnetic recording medium by forming a magnetic layer made of magnetic powder and a binder on a base, 3-30wt% needle-shape nonmagnetic powder (e.g., goethite and red oxide) based on the magnetic powder and carbon black having <=30mum average single particle diameter of <=10wt% the magnetic powder are incorporated to obtain an objective magnetic recording medium. The needle-shape nonmagnetic powder is excellent in the dispersibility in the magnetic layer and shows the improving effect of the wear resistance of the magnetic layer without losing the smoothness of the surface of the magnetic layer, and the minute particle of carbon black shows the effect in increasing the smoothness of the surface of the magnetic substance layer.
