Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the damage of the partition walls and to enhance the productivity by usig a basic refractory and a high aluminous refractory as the refractories of the side walls of reaction chambers which double as the partition walls among the chambers and combustion chambers at lower parts having a lower temp. and parts having a higher temp., respectively.
CONSTITUTION: For example, 2 reaction chambers 13 are set parallel to each other, and a basic refractory and a high sluminous refractory are used as the refractories of the partition walls 15 among the chambers 13 and combustion chambers 14 set at both sides of each of the chambers 13 at lower parts where the temp. of the chambers 13 is below 800W1,100°C and parts where the temp. of the chambers 13 is above 800W1,100°C, respectively. The chambers 13 are packed with a specified amount of granules 3 of starting materials, gaseous N2 is introduced into the chambers 13 through pipes 18, and the chambers 13 are heated with the chambers 14. The granules 3 are converted into sialon by heating in the N2 atmosphere, and the sialon is discharged through gate valves 6, 17. Granules 3 are continously fed to the chambers 13 from hoppers 16.
