Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a thin-gage electrochromic (EC) display element having an improved contact of a display pattern part and excellent display quality with high mass productivity and a low cost, by forming an EC display device using a flexible substrate. CONSTITUTION:The 2nd substrate 71 has flexibility. In other words, the 1st transparent electrode layer 2, the 1st EC material layer (Tungsten trioxide film) 3 of a display pattern shape, an insulated film 4, an electrolyte layer (lithium iodide film) 5 and an electron preventing layer (silicon oxide film) 6 are laminated on a transparent substrate 1. On the other hand, the 2nd transparent electrode layer 8 and the 2nd EC material layer iridium oxide film) 9 of a display pattern shape are formed on the substrate 71 made of a sheet type polypropylene film. Then the 1st and 2nd substrata are pressure-welded to each other so that the 1st and 2nd EC material layers are set opposite to each other, and the peripheral areas are sealed up. Thus a solidstate complementary EC display element is obtained.
