Abstract

PURPOSE:To display a flaw figure on a Y axis by providing a potentiometer which is operated in association with the back and forth scanning of a slanted angle probe, and combining the potentiometer to a time axis phase shifting circuit in the ultrasonic wave flaw detector. CONSTITUTION:The potentiometer 3 is attached to the probe 2. The movement of the back and forth scanning is guided by an arm 4. The arm 4 is attached to a rail 5 which is provided on a material under test 1,and can be moved in the longitudinal direction of a welding line. The potentiometer 3 is moved by continuously moving the probe back and forth along the arm 4. An electric signal which is proportional to the movement of the probe 2 is generated. Said signal is introduced to the time phase shifting circuit of the ultrasonic flaw detector and a CRT is set so that a time sweeping starting point coincides with an arbitrary point. The position of an echo source displayed on the CRT of the ultrasonic wave flaw detector is displayed by the dimension which is proportional to the distance from a reference point to the echo source measured in parallel with the material under test, with the surface of the material under test at the arbitrary point from the welding line as a reference.
