Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a killed steel ingot hot rolling free from surface defects by adding Zr instead of Ti in a limited amount such as to satisfy a specified relationship with the total amount of N, when continuously casting a steel of specified composition containing either one or both of Nb and V.
CONSTITUTION: A steel containing up to 0.6% of C, up to 0.75% of Si, up to 2.0% of Mn, up to 0.04% of P, up to 0.05% of S, up to 0.09% of Al, up to 0.01% of N, 0.005W0.06% of Zr, 0.01W0.10% of Nb and 0.01W0.20% of V, the balance being Fe and unavoidable impurities, wherein TotalZr-6.5TotalN≥0, is melted. Further, Mo or Ni, Cr, Cu, W or the like is added to the steel, if required. The melted steel is continuously cast to produce an predetermined ingot. Accordingly, the generation of surface cracking characteristic of steels containing either one or both of Nb and V can be prevented, and a killed steel ingot for hot rolling enhanced in required quality characteristics can be obtained.
