Abstract

PURPOSE: An extremely fine powder of silica is added to a mixture of a boron compound that gives a characteristic peak in X-ray diffraction diagram by calcination and a calcium compound to give the titled curing agent with high resistance to weathering, water and whitening and with high adhesion.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture of a boron compound, e.g., boria or a compound giving boria by calcination, and a calcium compound, e.g., calcium oxide or a compound giving calcium oxide by calcination, is combined with an extremely fine powder of silica by 1W5mol% based on the above mixture and they are calcined to give the objective curing agent consisting of three compounds, CaO.B2O3, 2CaO.B2O3 and 3CaO.B2O3, and satisfying the relation of the equations expressing the ratios of the area of each peak at 2θ in X-ray diffraction diagram to the sum of these three peak areas of these three compounds.
USE: The resultant curing agent is added to a water-soluble silicate salt as a binder and used as a coating.
