Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a single-phase/three-phase input DC arc welder whose power factor is improved by reducing the ripple factor, by using a three-phase star-connected transformer and then by interposing a capacitor between two terminals of its primary windings.
CONSTITUTION: The main circuit consists of a main transformer having star-connected primary winding 10, a rectifying circuit and a smoothing circuit. Between two out of three terminals of primary winding 10, capacitor 12 is interposed and to the terminal connected or unconnected to the capacitor, a single-phase input is applied. At this time, currents flow to respective winding of primary winding 10 as if a three-phase input voltage were applied, and a three-phase voltage is induced across secondary winding 11. This output is rectified by the rectifying circuit of diodes 13W18 and smoothed by smoothing reactor 19, decreasing the ripple factor. Further, changing connections of the primary-side input enables this device to be used with a three-phase input.
