Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a red mud settling agent acting on predetermined bauxite with efficiency by adding starch converted into cationic one of quat. ammonium salt type.
CONSTITUTION: This red mud settling agent contains starch converted into cationic one of quat. ammonium salt type. This starch preferably has ≥200cps viscosity when measured at 20°C as a 10% aqueous soln., and the preferable colloid equivalent is about 1W2meq/g. The cationic starch can be obtd. by dissolving starch in alkali and allowing a cationizing agent contg. a quat. ammonium group to act on the soln. This settling agent shows a high settling effect even on bauxite produced in Bintan.
