Abstract
PURPOSE: An asphalt composition having an elevated softening point and lowered sensitivity to heat, which, when added to aggregate and a filler, exhibits improved holding strength and adhesion, prepared by adding to an asphalt, a rosin-modified phenol-aldehyde resin.
CONSTITUTION: To an asphalt is added 0.5W25wt% of a rosin-modified phenol- aldehyde resin. The reason why limits are set to the amount of the rosin-modified phenol-aldehyde resin which is added is as follows: Amounts up to 0.5wt% neiether lower the heat sensitivity of an asphalt composition nor elevate the softening point so much. An amount of 25wt% gives an asphalt composition having heat senstivity lowered and a softening point elevated to an extent which is industrially satisfactory. And the use of more than 25wt% is not ecooimic and of no importance in the industry.
