Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a polyvinyl chloride resin having a fine, highly porous particle structure and excellent gelation properties, by suspension-polymerizing vinyl chloride in the presence of a modified polyvinyl chloride and a cellulose derivative.
CONSTITUTION: In suspension-polymerizing vinyl chloride, there are added simultaneously to the reaction mixture, a cellulose derivative and a partially saponified polyvinyl alcohol (saponification degree 60W80mol%) having, in the side chains, 0.02W5mol% of at least one member selected from the group consisting of a sulfate ester, a phosphate ester and a salt thereof. With respect to the amount of said sulfate ester, phosphate ester or the like, amounts below 0.02mol% can not give porosity to the PVC, whereas amounts exceeding 5mol% brings the vinyl chloride monomer suspension system to the emulsion system. This is not advantageous. With respect to the saponification degree of th PVA, the one below 60mol% can not maintain an enough stable suspension system, whereas the one exceeding 80mol% is difficult to provide a porous PVC.
