Abstract

PURPOSE: To accomplish comfortable heating by measuring the time required for defrosting operation and prolonging the time interval until next defrosting operation is started in case that the amount of frost is small and the time required for the defrosting operation is short, and thereby preventing lowering of heating efficiency of the air conditioner.
CONSTITUTION: In the air conditioner, a temperature detector 12 is attached to a low-temperature heat exchanger 11 in the manner that the output signal of the detector 12 is given to a defrosting operation starting signal generating means 15. This means 15 is connected with a timer 13 for controlling the time interval of defrosting operation, which is added with another timer 14 for measuring the time required for defrosting operation. The timer 14 measures the time duration when a defrosting signal is given from the means 15 and changes the prohibition time until next defrosting operation on the basis of the time duration measured as above. With such an arrangement, in case that the amount of frost is small and the defrosting operation is finished in a short while, the time interval until the next defrosting operation is started is prolonged, thereby accomplishing comfortable and efficient heating operation.
