Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent uneven external pressure from being applied on the outside circumference of an optical fiber by inserting a glass member integrally formed on the outside circumference of the optical fiber as a hermetic sealing plug into the insertion hole provided to the holding member of a repeater pressure-resistant casing and hermetically securing the same. CONSTITUTION:A glass member 2 of a coefficient of thermal expansion nearly equal to that of an optical fiber strand 1 is inserted onto the outside circumference of said fiber, and these are hermetically melt-stuck to one piece by means of an adhesive member 3 such as solder glass of a coefficient of thermal expansion nearly equal to that of the optical fiber and a low m.p. This glass strand 1 is inserted into the insertion hole 23 of a holding member 24 provided to the end face plate 22 of a repeater pressure-resistant casing 21, and is hermetically sealed by means of an adhesive agent. A cap 25 is fixed thereon by way of a cap nut 26. Thereby, the direct exertion of uneven stress and external force upon the disposed optical fiber is obviated.
