Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent damaging of an ignition nose owing to electrode melting losses, and make possible continuous and stable scarfing by using Al etc. for the consumable electrode at the time of spot scarfing the surface defect parts of a steel slab etc.
CONSTITUTION: A steel slab or the like S is moved on a roller table 1 in the F direction. A gate type frame 2A provided with a carriage 2B equipped with a burner 2D and a consumable electrode 2E is disposed on the way. The electrode gripping part 2F of the carriage is connected to the positive pole of a low voltage large current electric power source 2H and the negative pole is connected to the roller of the roller table 1. Al(alloy) of which the oxide is higher than the m. p. of Fe is used for the consumable electrode 2E. The carriage 2B is moved to the surface defect part of the slab S; the burner 2D and electrode gripping part 2F are lowered; oxygen is spounted from the burner; at the same time, a voltage is applied to the consumable electrode 2E to cause electric discharging between the same and the slab S, whereby scrafing is accomplished. Since the Al electrode is oxidized by oxygen and forms Al2O3 of a high m. p., it does not melt and damage the carriage parts, unlike Fe.
