Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent blackening of a bulb, cut-off of an arc and roughening of an electrode surface, by heat-treating tungsten which is added with at least one of aluminium, silicon and potassium. CONSTITUTION:A xenon lamp is constituted by arranging in a face-to-face releation a cathode 2 composed of thorium tungsten, and an anode 3 composed of tungsten or tungsten alloy in a quartz bulb 1, and, furthermore, charging the quartz bulb 1 with xenon gas. The anode 3 is made by treating tungsten, which is added with at least one of aluminium, silicon and potassium, with heat in a vacuum at a temperature above 2,000 deg.C.
