Abstract
PURPOSE: To detect a very small amount of ammonia with ease by a method wherein a sample is made to react to a rich alkali solution in a reaction tube and the reaction-generated gas removed of humidity is introduced into a thermoionization detector.
CONSTITUTION: The gas from a carrier-gas cylinder 14 of nitrogen and the like is adjusted to be under the prescribed pressure and supplied from a supply pipe 3 to the bottom part of a reaction tube 1 at a fixed flow rate. Into this tube 1 is put a rich alkali solution, and it is kept at a fixed temperature by a thermostatic tank 7. Next, when the sample water is supplied to the reaction tube 1 through a septum 4 fitted to an injection port 1a, the ammonia nitrogen contained in the sample water turns to be NH3 gas and is sent, together with other reaction-generated gas, by the carrier-gas supplied from the bottom part of the reaction tube. After being removed of humidity by a dehydrating pipe 8 and a dehumidifying pipe 9, it reaches a column 10 and is separated from other gas by Chromosorb 103 inside the column 10, and then is supplied to a thermoionization detector 11. And, the detection signal therefrom is subjected to dataprocessing 13 and thus the density of ammonia is detected.
