Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the removal ratio of dithionic acid compared with that of conventional method, by decomposing dithionic acid contained in waste water under anaerobic conditions by sludge microorganismus in a specific pH range.
CONSTITUTION: In the treatment of waste water contg. dithionic acid, e.g., that discharged from wet desulfurization plant etc., dithionic acid contained in the waste water is deomposed with sludge microorganismus under anaerobic conditions in 4.5W8.5pH range. Anaerobic microorganismus present in the sludge of sewage or human waste is suitable for the microorganismus. This method allows to increase the removal ratio for dithionic acid, which is a causative agent of COD, compared with those of conventional methods.
