Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound in high selectivity, by oxidizing isobutylene or t-butanol with O2 in the presence of a catalyst containing Mo, Pb, Fe, Ni, Bi, an element selected from Rb, Cs and Tl, and O, at specific ratios.
CONSTITUTION: Methacrolein is prepared by oxidizing isobutylene or t-butanol with O2 in the presence of a catalyst of formula (X is least one element selected from Rb, Cs and Tl; when X is two or more elements, e is the total number of the elements; a is 0.05W5; b is 0.05W4; c is 0.05W2; b/c is 0.25W2.0; d is 0.1W5; e is 0.01W2; f is number of O atoms).
EFFECT: Little formation of isobutyl aldehyde which is hardly separable from methacrolein. The highly toxic element such as As, Te, etc. is not necessary. The catalytic life is long.
