Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce soot and to purify waste gas by a method wherein smoke is guided into an alternating or pulse electric field so that soot is decomposed into fine particles, which are oxidized by heating or catalytic action.
CONSTITUTION: Smoke such as waste gas from combustion chamber is guided to the soot reducing section 2. There, an alternating or pulse voltage is applied to the first 22 and the second 23 electrodes. This decomposes chain-connected soot into fine particles. The soot thus having a large specific surface is oxidized by burning with heat and/or catalytic action due to current passing through the active medium 25. Thus, the soot is removed and the waste gas is purified. In this manner, a simple and compact device reduces soot without causing clogging.
