Abstract

PURPOSE: To recover liquefied SO2 by a method wherein activated semicoke is used to adsorb sulfurous acid gas in the waste gas, is subject to desorption by heating, and the obtained conc. SO2 gas is further concentrated and compressed.
CONSTITUTION: The activated semicoke provided by dry distillation and activation of coal is used as an adsorbent in the adsorption column 12 to adsorb sulfurous acid gas in the waste gas 11. Then, the semicoke 14 having sulfuric acid on its surface is sent to a desorption column 15 and is treated with heat desorption to obtain concentrated SO2 gas. The SO2 gas 17 is sent to a dehumidifying column 18 to be brought into contact with conc. H2SO4 25 so that the SO2 gas is dehydrated and concentrated. The dehumidified gas 20 containing highly concentrated SO2 is sent to a compressor 21 and liquefied SO2 is recovered. In this manner, a high yield recovery of liquefied SO2 from sulfurous acid gas in the waste gas is given in the dry-type desulfurization process so that it can be used as an industrial base material.
