Abstract

PURPOSE: A pigment composition which when used in aqueous coatings or aqueous printing inks, gives them excellent luster, flow and storage stability, prepared by adding a (thio)urea derivative to a pigment.
CONSTITUTION: Titled pigment composition (A) is obtained by adding to (i) 100pts.wt. of a pigment such as an azo pigment, (ii) 3W30pts.wt. of a (thio)urea derivative represented by the formula, wherein X is O or S; R1W4 are each H, alkyl, aralkyl or aryl; or the groups R1 and R2 and the groups R3 and R4 may be connected, such as N-methylurea or N,N'-dimethylurea. Then, the pigment composition (A) is added to a varnish of a water-soluble resin such as styrene-maleic acid type or an acrylic type thereby producing an aqueous coating or an aqueous printing ink.
