Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance the heat resistance and electric conductivity of an Al alloy by adding a B-contg. aid for removing Ti and V to an Al bath, removing Ti and V by sufficient reaction with the B, and adding zirconium fluoride alkali to the molten metal to allow Zr to be contained in the Al.
CONSTITUTION: Al metal is melted in a melting furnace, and a B-contg. aid such as alkali borofluoride for removing Ti and V is added to the molten Al to remove Ti and V by sufficient reaction with the B. Zirconium fluoride alkali is then added to the molten Al optionally after solidification and remelting to allow Zr to be contained in the Al. At this time, the zirconium fluoride alkali is added in a plurality of stages, and the Zr content is analyzed immediately before the final addition so that Zr is added correspondingly to the desired Zr content.
