Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a herbicide containing Δ2-1,2,4-triazolin-5-ones as effective component, and useful for treating the field before or at the early stage of sprouting, or killing the weeds in the paddy field at the early or middle stage of growing.
CONSTITUTION: A herbicide containing as an effective component, a Δ2-1,2,4- triazolin-5-one of formula I (R1 is 1-4C lower alkyl, chlorobenzyl or lower alkenyl; X is H or Cl), e.g. 1-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)-4-isopropyl-Δ2-1,2,4-triazolin-5-one. The herbicide is effective to cockspur-grass, monochoria, umbrella plant, slender spikerush, bulrush, oats, etc. The compound of formula I can be prepared, e.g. by (1) reacting a compound of formula II with a compound of formula III in an inert solvent with heat, (2) closing the ring of the resulted compound of formula IV in the presence of a base to obtain a compound of formula V, and (3) reacting the compound with a compound of formula VI.
