Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the pre-detection of the end of a battery life by providing a negative plate made of metal-lithium plate with a thinner part which is in contact with a positive active material whose main component is iodine. CONSTITUTION:A negative plate 2 of metal-lithium plate, a positive active material 1 whose main component is iodine, and a solid electrolyte 1 whose main component is lithium iodide that will be generated on the active surface of the contact between the negative electrode 2 and the positive active material 1 are used to constitute a battery; the main component of the material 1 is a shifting-charge complex or the like which consists of iodine and an organic aromatic hetero-ring compound such as poly-2-vinylpyridine. The metal-lithium-plate negative electrode 2 of such a battery is provided with a part 2 whithin the surface in contact with the positive electrode 1, whose thickness is thinner than that which is required to give the same capacity as the charged capacity of the positive electrode of iodine. In addition, a part 7 of a negative collector 5, which is in contact with the thinner part 3 of the negative electrode 2, is preferred to be formed of a material such as silver, magnesium or calcium; the negative collector is in contact with the negative electrode 2 of lithium plate. Through the means mentioned above, the change in voltage at the last stage of discharge can be detected, thus enabling the prediction of the end of the battery life.
