Abstract

PURPOSE: To inexpensively obtain a quality naphthenic lubricating oil base stock, by refining a raffinate prepared by extracting a lubricating oil crude stock from a paraffin base crude oil with an extracting agent thereby to form an extract, and further treating the extract with an extracting agent.
CONSTITUTION: A lubricating oil crude stock obtained from a paraffin base crude oil or a mixed base crude oil is treated with an extracting solvent having a preferential dissolving power for aromatic components in the first extraction zone thereby to obtain the first raffinate and the first extract. Then, in the second extraction zone, said first extract is treated with an extracting solvent having a preferential dissolving power for aromatic components thereby to form the second raffinate and the second extract. Then, the second raffinate is refined. As the extracting solvent which can be applied, there can be mentioned furfural, phenhols, N-methyl-2- pyrrolidone or nitrobenzene.
