Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce titled powder having high degree of crystallinity, high density and high saturated magnetic flux density by heating acicular crystal hematite particles contg. a slight amount of Si in a nonreducing gas.
CONSTITUTION: First, an aqueous alkaline soln. of NaOH etc. of ≥11pH contg. Fe(OH)2 added with water soluble silicate (e.g.; sodium silicate) so as to become 0.1W1.7atom% in Si equiv. is prepd. Next, this aqueous alkaline soln. is reacted with an aqueous primary salt solution of ferrous sulfate etc. Air is supplied to the thus obtd. aqueous soln. of ≥11pH cong. fine and uniform Fe(OH)2 to oxidize the same and allow acicular crystal goethite particles to grow, whereby the acicular crystal hematite particles of 0.3W2.0μm mean long axis length and 50W300m2/g specific surface area are obtd. Thence, these particles are calcined by heating under predetermined steam partial pressure and temperature, after which they are reduced by heating at 350W600°C in a reducing gas, particularly at 450W550°C, whereby the intended acicular crystal metal iron magnetic particle powder is produced.
