Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable the lightening the weight of a hammer with a larger striking momentum thereof by releasing a strain energy of an elastic body in an instant with the lowering of the hammer after the energy is accumulated with the lifting thereof.
CONSTITUTION: When driving a pile, oil is forced into a hammer lifting cylinder 5 to lift a hammer cylinder 1 by way of piston rods 6. As the hammer cylinder 1 rises, a spring 3 in a guide tube 2 is compressed to increase a strain energy thereof until it stoped getting into contact with the tip face of both the guide rods 7 and 8. Then, as soon as the oil in the cylinder 5 is withdrawn promtly, the hammer cylinder 1 lowers quickly by the strain energy accmulated in the spring 3 in addition to the own weight of the hammer cylinder 1 itself. The moment the bottom plate 9 hits against a cushion 10, the hammer reaches its maximum momentum to strike the pile strongly through a cap 11.
