Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a coated super hard alloy member with enhanced bending strength, etc. for a tool, etc. by coating the surface of a hard alloy with a hard carbide layer having a specified thickness and further coating the layer with a specified metallic oxide as an outer layer. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a hard alloy is coated with SiC or B4C as an inner layer in <=1mum thickness by a CVD method or other method. The layer in then coated with Al2O3 and ZrO2 as an outer layer in a predetermined thickness by a CVD method or other method. Since the barrier layer of SiC or B4C is thin, the resulting coated super hard alloy member has sufficient bending strength. The outer layer of Al2O3, etc. can be made thicker, so the wear resisting effect can be utilized to the maximum.
