Abstract
PURPOSE:To sense the abnormal operation of the cutting tool by detecting the pressing force in the forward movement of the tool driving member and the cutting tool displacement in the forward movement of it. CONSTITUTION:Marks X1-X5 represent the displacement of a drill bit 1 from a reference position, and marks P1-P5 the pressing force of the drill bit 1 at given displacement positions. For example, when the displacement section of the drill bit 1 is X2<X<X3, the normal pressing force in the section is P2 in FIG.(a). However, when the drill bit 1 is broken as shown in FIG.(b), the pressing force in the section is P1(<P2). Moreover, when the drill bit 1 is in an abnormal condition as shown in FIG.(c), the pressing force in the section is P5(>P1). Consequently, in this case, when the pressing force is not equal or almost equal to P2 in the specific displacement section (X2<X<X3), the drill bit 1 is found to be in an abnormal operation condition.
