Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable rapid start of a generation plant for a fuel cell in which a hydrocarbon system fuel subjected to steam reforming is used as a fuel, by making part of the fuel to be burnt during the start of the plant in order to make the temperature of the entrance of a reforming reactor to be increased. CONSTITUTION:A hydrocarbon system fuel together with steam is passed through a reforming reactor 1 and a shift reactor 2 to be converted into a mixture gas containing hydrogen, which is supplied to a fuel cell 3. Air also is supplied to the fuel cell 3. Water is supplied from a feed-water tank 7 by means of a pump 6 to make each equipment such as the reforming reactor 1 to be driven, thus a generation plant for the fuel cell 3 being operated. Here, a device 8 for burning part of the fuel, which is operated during the start of the plant so as to make the plant system to be preheated, is placed between the fuel source and the reactor 1. As a result, the speed of the tempreature rise of each system component is increased, thereby its rapid start being enhanced. The temperatue of the combustion device 8 is controlled by a signal sent from a tempreature detector 10, which regulates an air flow adjusting valve 9.
