Abstract

PURPOSE: To control a waste water treating installation simply and continuously by determining redox potential of water sampled from the treating water in the presence of an oxidizing agent and estimating COD of the treating water.
CONSTITUTION: A waste water containing oxidizable substances consisting essentially of reductive anions is removed by treating by an appropriate method. Then, residual oxidizable substances in the treated water are estimated and controlled from redox potential in the presence of an oxidizing agent at the stage of the examination of the treated water. Since there is a correlation between COD concn. and indication of an ORP meter (redox potentiometer) in the presence of a strong oxidizing agent, it is thus possible to perform the control of waste water by using an ORP meter with excellent responsiveness.
