Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain electrical contacts made to function without increasing the contact resistance even in a sulfiding atmosphere by adding at least one of Ni and Co to Ru.
CONSTITUTION: Electrical contacts are obtd. by adding at least one of Ni and Co to ≥50wt% Ru. Since the surfaces of the contacts are always coated with oxide films consisting essentialy of ruthenium oxide with high electric conductivity, the contacts are slightly sulfided in an ordinary sulfiding atmosphere and do not increase the contact resistance. This Ru alloy has a high m.p., a high b.p. and a large minimum arc current, so it slightly generates arc and causes little transition even in working action for directly sending a current to inductive load and shutting off it. The contacts are fit for sending a relatively large current and shutting off it in an electromagnetic relay, etc.
